Professor and Chair
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is an internationally known program and ranks in the top twenty of all mechanical engineering graduate and undergraduate programs in the nation according to US News and World Report rankings. Responsibilities of the Chair include providing leadership to a growing and vibrant research program in the department, stewardship of strong academic programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels, building experiential learning opportunities for students, working with our advancement group to increase financial support for the department, and cultivating industrial partnerships. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is home to 44 Faculty, seven NAE members, 24 plus Staff, nearly 1,500 Students, and over 11,000 alumni. With expenditures of nearly $30M/year, the department is a leading unit in the Clark School of Engineering in terms of Research and Innovation at the University of Maryland. The department offers degree programs in Mechanical Engineering and Reliability Engineering at its primary location in College Park, MD as well as the University System of Maryland in Southern Maryland, and at Frostburg. The department is home to the Center for Environment Energy Engineering, the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering, Center for Risk and Reliability, Center for Sustainability in the Built Environment, and the Center for Engineering Concepts Development.

Qualifications:
Education: Doctorate in mechanical engineering, or a closely related field;
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong leadership and management ability with proven inter-personal skills; a proven research record with evidence of international recognition, and a commitment to diverse, equitable and inclusive engineering education.
Applicants must be qualified for appointment as a tenured full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
