Assistant Professor Dimitrios Hristu-Varsakelis Awarded AFOSR Grant
Assistant Professor Dimitrios Hristu-Varsakelis, in conjunction with P. S. Krishnaprasad and Timothy Horiuchi from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, were awarded a new Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) grant to investigate cooperative control in formations of dynamical systems, focusing on mathematical modeling and biologically motivated control strategies. The new grant is called "Dynamics and Control of Agile Formations." Innovative aspects of the proposal include methods to account for the (possibly limited) communication capabilities of the formation's members; modeling external threats via synthetic potentials and use such models in a new approach to path optimization; a program of research in a continuum approach, emphasizing pattern formation phenomena.
This grant is worth up to $480K over 2.5 years.
