A. James Clark School of Engineering Awards - Call for Nominations
The annual Service Award for an outstanding faculty member in the Clark School of Engineering will be presented at the spring commencement exercises on Thursday, May 23, 2002. The faculty member receiving the service award will be presented with a plaque and a cash award. Nominations from students, faculty and staff are hereby solicited. The evaluation factors for determining the award are as follows:
Esprit de Corps
Innovation in developing a curriculum or special courses
Service on committees
Advisor to student groups
Giving lectures to the campus and outside community
Unpaid consulting for School colleagues
Recruitment activities for students
Advising students
Participating in open houses, alumni activities, etc.
Enhancing the University and School image by outreach activities
Enhancing the University and School image by serving on or chairing national committees
Nomination forms can be obtained from Teresa Prince in 1124 Martin Hall. Complete the nomination form and attach a maximum of 5 letters of support from any combination of the following:
Supervisor of the nominee
Person supervised by nominee
Peer of nominee
Faculty, staff, or student who has had personal experience with the quality of service provided by the nominee
PLEASE SUBMIT NOMINATIONS to Gary A. Pertmer, Associate Dean, School of Engineering, 1124 Glenn L. Martin Hall no later than Friday, April 5, 2002.
POOLE & KENT COMPANY TEACHING AWARD
ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SENIOR FACULTY
The annual Poole & Kent Company Teaching Award for senior faculty in the Clark School of Engineering will be presented at the spring commencement exercises on Thursday, May 23, 2002. The faculty member receiving the teaching award will be presented with a plaque and a cash award. Nominations from faculty and students are being solicited. The evaluation factors for determining the award recipient are:
Associate Professor with more than ten years full-time teaching experience or Full Professor at time of nomination
Colleague appraisals
Student appraisals
Significant contribution to undergraduate and graduate teaching
Innovative classroom techniques and classroom materials
Ability to motivate students to learn
The packet submitted for award nominees should include the following:
A letter of nomination
Five letters of recommendation (at least one each from undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty (peers), and the Department chair)
A one page statement from the nominee which should include the nominee’s department, time at the University of Maryland, and rank
A one page summary sheet of student evaluations and no more than one page of student comments
A listing of classes taught during the past 3-4 years
Specific examples of innovative classroom techniques and classroom materials used by the nominee
