The research project I am involved in is to develop an agile tunable fiber laser source that is fully integrated and packaged for field-testing. In addition to meeting immediate mission critical needs for environmental and structural monitoring on high priority NASA systems, the resultant technology will be of immediate practical value for telecommunications industry. Major steps include optical feedback incorporating wavelength lock loop system, advanced tension-compression agile tunable piezo-optical system and fiber strength improvement. Considerable The following figures illustrate the obtained laser and the manageable wavelength shift using Fiber Bragg Grating fabricated on a sample single mode fiber.
